Four more sleeps

Good Morning to all
Let me begin by thanking Madame Samm for this amazing opportunity, the time she puts into each event is a blessing to all of us that want more information
I have loved all the post to date and wish I had time to make them all, but with just four days left they must be EASY
so hopefully you find this one to be that way, and if you made yesterdays you are well on your way
Here at the shop we call it the turned baby blanket, or self binding, but have added a new twist for the hollidays
your first will take about 1 hour
your second under
A quick and easy table topper

This is what you will need
TWO  yes 2 fabrics

one needs to be 10 inches bigger than the other
the smaller piece will be the focal point
and the larger will be the border
If you are using 60 inch wide fabric you will be able to make a much larger table topper, but for today we are using our
standard 45 inch wide cottons
this is awsome when made from two pieces of flannel
for a baby recieving blanket
but today we are going to make a christmas table cloth
or maybe one for after christmas as time is short

you will start by squareing up your two pieces
to do this you will fold your fabric in half and measure from each
fold out the same distance, cut as needed to keep square

for the focal point fabric you will measure mark and cut
16 inches from the fold both ways
this will give you a 32 inch square

for the border you will do the same making your
measurment from each fold 21 inches
this will give you a 42 inch square

*note you may be able to make it slightly bigger if the fabric allows
but for today we will stick with these measurments*

now find the middle of both pieces of fabric on all four sides
PIN the two pieces together right sides together

PIN ALONG ALL FOUR SIDES
your bottom or bigger piece will have access on the
corners we call this the elephant ear don't worry it is suppose to
look like this
sew all four sides
ending a 1/4 inch from each end of the short piece
AND LEAVING A TURN HOLE ON ONE SIDE
Once this is done remove your pins
we are going to 45 your corners
this is a little tricky so stay tuned

DO NOT TURN YOUR FABRIC YET

take each corner and fold with the shorter piece on the inside
matching your seam to the end
yours will actually be sewen not just pinned

lay your ruler on the corner placing the 45 degree line running along your unfinished edges NOT THE FOLD
you will do this on each corner
drawing a line
then sewing each corner

IMPORTANT!
DO NOT CUT YET
TURN THROUGH YOUR TURN HOLE AND MAKE SURE YOU MARKED IT AND SEWED IT CORRECTLY
I am not yelling just making a point

You want your corners to come to a 45
once you are happy with your corners you can cut them leaving a 1/4" fabric from stiching

Turn, lay out nice and flat iron creases on your border and a nice 45 on all four corners

stitch closed your turn hole
either by hand or by machine
if you know how to use your fancy stitches
this may be the time

for all of you out there hop on over to my blog and leave a comment
become a follower and two thats right 2 lucky people will recieve a kit in the mail
sadly after christmas.....

Happy Holidays to all
this give away will close December 23rd at midnight
Thanks for stopping by I appriciate each one of you, and enjoy reading your comments.

wind and destruction

Its December and you would think it is going to get cold and snowy
It has a bit
But the worst has been the wind
last Sunday November 27th it was
my Daughters
16th Birthday
this is my baby

the day was planned
time with family a dinner
and a nice evening together
at noon the wind came up
nothing new here in Southern Alberta
we were going into the city to buy a book for the
Birthday girl, Mr Sugar was securing the baby seat in the car
no I do not have a baby, I have grandkids
he came in and said there is smoke to the west
5 min later his fire pager went off and they called the town over to respond, 5 min later they called Raymond to respond
so off goes Mr. Sugar
( 19 year vetran of our volunteer fire dept.)
this was no ordinary fire with it came winds gusting to 150km hour or 100 miles an hour
in other parts of the world this is concidered
a hurrican or tornado force winds, here in alberta its normal
we don't like it and why we live here I am not sure but we do.

this fire burned 30 km had 9 fire dept. all Volunteer
and many Hutterite colonies that hauled water to the trucks and worked hard to make fire breaks
these pictures are taken from Raymond which is 20km from the fire the second picture is from Stirling and is 30 km from the fire, the flames shot so high and burned so bright that you thought it was much closer
these fire fighters fought hard and lost no one structure
We were not the only fire in SA about 2 hrs later a fire broke out on the westside of Lethbridge these men and women fought just as hard but because it is more populated the outcome was much different

the next morning we could see the damage in our own yard
this is whats left of the play house Mr. Sugar and Sugar Son in Law built for mothers day this year
Yes I want to cry
Mr Sugar says he can put humpty back together again

So now we look forward to Christmas
my Texas children fly home on the 14th
can't wait to see that little guy
its been 3 months and skyp just does'nt cut it

Tonight is Christmas on Main street here in
good old Raymond
I will take pictures and share with you later

Just for Me

I don't do things just for me very often
it's usually for my kids, my mom,
grandkids or a customer
Mr. Sugar gets his share right out of the middle
so this weekend I sewed just for me
I made this darling mantal banner

pattern came from this great book

Wait I didnt stop there
I also made this darling quilt using the trees
from the banner
they are simple but I love them

I used this years Basic Grey
It took on layer cake and 10 extra squares
My tree is adorned with teal and gold and the colors in this
project will go very nice

I am still working on a table runner for the
coffee table
I don't think it will last long on the table
Asher our one year old is coming home for christmas
and he will make sure it is on the floor at all times

How Hard Can It Be

Well let me tell you it is not so hard just time consuming
I bought a fat quarter pack of
this
I think it is the cuttest halloween fabric out there
but I needed it to go far enough for two quilts
50x50
So you conserve on the first and splurge on the second
I first made each of the munchkins a trick or treat bag
i should have turned the picture before i loaded, no time

And found the book at Costco, I love charlie brown
then on to the quilt
this is Davies in progress
and this is Ashers finished
ya it took me all day Sunday
there is alot of thinking in this quilt

And here is the thinking huvel
that is only one wrapper and Mr Sugar made me popcorn
I am off to get the first one quilted is needs to be in the mail by thursday or it won't make it for
Halloween

Staff Party

Long in coming hard to get everyone together
but the day came and everyone showed up
YA

I made a pot of hamburger soup
it was okay (I need to stick to cream soups)
cheese buns via my mom
a yummy apple cake
and bottled water (our tap water tastes like crap)

I made a cute little kit for the meeting
The cute pattern comes from the old days, TEN years ago a friend of mine (terrie) and I did online pattern for wood crafting
Behind the Picket Fence
when we droped the sight a porn company picked it up imagine our customers shock
I think it is excercise equipment now
we did not to bad, after a couple of years we moved on
good part is I kept all the patterns and changing them to work with fabric love it

and now the project

I wish I could show you the original but I just don't have one anymore
We ate and then got to work sewing

This young lady is an amazing sewer, look at her consentration

and then there was a little gabbing and giggeling
that always makes for a fun time

Mary is busy cutting all her letters out in the wrong colors, oops secrets, and myrna is just so photo genic

I forgot to get pictures early on and missed out on Cyndy, Mackenzie and my mom trust me they were a laugh a minute
what a great group to work with I would not trade them for anyone else

Stay tuned more update on the witch n stich coming

Fall I love Fall

 Things I love about fall

All the colors ( reds, yellows, oranges, and a touch of green)
It starts getting dark sooner (I just don't feel I have to stay up so long)
 The cooler evenings
Harvest (my garden and the fields)
Wiener roast on the weekends
and friends

If you have ever been to Las Vegas or plan on going
The one must on your list is the ever changing
garden at the Bellegio and what the heck check out the fountains they are pretty cool especially at night
these pictures were taken with Mr. Sugars phone the only pictures from our trip

These are the floral arrangment at the check in counter
there are 12 of these large arrangments
I was hoping you would be able to see the beautiful back drop at the check in counter a little  better

As you walk into the garden this large cornacopia greets you
every pumpkin and goard is real
the orange pumpkin in the background is orange carnations

These 5 foot corn are amazing, they are made up of
indian corn with all those beautiful colors I am not sure what the husk were made of
in the center of the garden they had three horses all made from live plants the main and tail were grasses  of some kind
These pumkins weighed in at over 800 pound
some were in the 900 area they had little signs to let you know
the weight
This tree with a face talkes to you as you walked by it is so
amazing to see what money can buy you

this apple sitting in the grass is red roses all alive and looking beautiful

My best friend from high school now lives in Las Vegas and a friend of hers works for the Belligio, and told me the floors drop down so they can setup, all except the outer flowers they are added after to complete the display

once that season is up and wonderful they immediately start growing for the next.
I have had the good fortune to see it for christmas,
chinese new year, summer and now fall

I wish my decorations for the seasons compared
I will show you mine this week

What did you do this weekend

Good weedend, maybe because I was at home
caught up on the laundry
mopped all my floors
set up all my fall(more on that this week)
and went fishing with Benny and Davey

Mr Sugar was away this week at meetings and on his way home stoped at the
Bass Pro Shop
he bought Benny and new pink fishing rod
and Davie a Tinker Bell rod
all night friday day would cast over the stair railing and reel up the little rubber fish that came with the rod
finally Papa Sugar
took her to the lake

This little wonder fished for about 45 min and then lost interest
she never caught a fish

Hope what ever you did this weekend it was memorable

(disclaimer)
I know I am a horrible speller so just laugh with me not at me
my husband just likes to point this out

Back in Canada

Home again Home again
or something like that
Here is the bad news
I took 200 pictures and lost them all
mostley because I don't know how to run my camera

So here goes we flew into Las Vegas
thurs september 8th
we flew out of Kalispell MT and the
plane was delayed by three hours
we were suppose to be in at 6:30 arrived at 9:30
by the time we picked up the rental Jeep

and arrived at the hotel at 11:00
ya we had supper and went to bed
We stayed at the Rio for our first time
it was very nice the rooms were big the pool was great
but off the strip, not a big deal for us we always rent a car but
a pain if you always have to be catching a shuttle

We spent the weekend with friends the flew in friday
Saturday I woke up we went for breakfast and by noon I
had full blowen FLU
slept til the next morning

Monday we got on the road early for L.A.
we stayed close to Venice Beach
Monday night we went down to east Venice and walked the peir
and had supper at the nicest restraunt
(insert missing picture her)
you will have to imagine as I tell you
This seaside restraunt was Italian
the front of the building was just that when you walked
throught the door you right outside again
it was packed with people, good sign
and lamp heaters set amoung the tables
it was a bit chilli from the ocean
the food was amazing, especially the garlic buds
they were brought to the table hot every ten minutes
the pasta was excellent and half way into the meal
a man delivered sheet music of thats amoire, two minutes
later the music started and every single person in the restraunt
began to sing. All then staff then walked around singing and clinking glasses with each table
it was actually quite romantic

The next morning we went to the fabric district in L.A.
this was so over whelming

there is fabric every where
some of it is good quality and some is crap
the one thing we learned is the price is never the price
it was kind of like beinging in mexico
as soon as you start to walk away the price came down,
one guy told us he was short in the bank, my husband jumped on that one, the guy is shorter now.
The funny part is we got everything for amazing prices, but now we had to get it home on the plane and we have not even been to the bike show which is what we came for
Wednesday was the best day of the trip, we drove down to east Venice parked the jeep, and rented bikes,

peddle bikes,
yes we own a bike shop but that does not mean we ride them very much, so off we go
Venice Beach is a crazy place you see all kinds
like this guy
my husband had a conversation with him and he sounds very educated
he was selling T shirts the day we saw him
From Venice we rode down to Santa Monica the pier there is really cool

and then we rode into Malibu and then back
it took us 6 hours we did sit and people watch at Santa Monica
for about and hour

The one thing that was hard for me was the residentially challenged
they are every where
